Glasnost in Print
Translation Portfolio
Fall semester of my sophomore year of college, I worked as a translator for the history department. I assisted Professor Thomas Wolfe by translating Soviet newspapers for an online gallery as part of his research. Below are a few samples of the many articles I translated
Translations
These are just three samples of my work during this period. I encourage you to explore the site and discover the beauty of a freer press during this period of the Soviet Union
Nostalgia - 1991
A philosophical publication from a "private independent newspaper" that explores the greater national and existential meaning of nostalgia. Click here to be taken to the page.
News - 1991 (?)
This publication is a great example of the free press in the early 1990's in the Soviet Union. Radical thinkers could finally create a platform in print. This publication features the manifesto of a group of "anarcho-humanists." Click here to be taken to the page.
Liberation - 1990
This very first issue of the publication explores Vladimir Lenin's rhetoric. Additionally, there is a "Note to the Reader" section in which the editor in chief addresses the audience as a friend. Click here to be taken to the page.
